Igor Shevchenko (name changed) is a resident of the «DPR» (Donetsk region). On February 21, 2022, without conducting a medical examination and without documents, he was illegally mobilized and sent to serve in the Kharkiv region. The man has never served in the army, did not receive military training, did not take the oath, and did not sign a contract. Igor still does not have a military ID. In October 2022 he was hospitalized, hepatitis C was first detected. Shevchenko’s wife believes that her husband must have been infected during the war. After the man was discharged from the hospital, Igor was orally informed that due to hepatitis C, he is no longer fit for service, and the mobilized person was sent home, says his wife Elena (name changed).

The family moved from the «DPR» to the Rostov region and started a new life. However, in May 2023, the military unit in the «DPR» declared him wanted for desertion. Then Igor went to the military enlistment office in Taganrog, where he was told that he is not listed in the Russian Armed Forces.

«On May 15, at the Taganrog migration department, where my husband came for a certificate, he was detained by the commandant’s office. Without explaining the reasons, all his personal belongings and documents were confiscated. The next day, my husband was already taken to Rostov and held there,» woman tells ASTRA.

In Rostov, Igor met with other heroes of ASTRA publications – for example, with Konstantin (name changed) from Stavropol, who was deceitfully sent into battle despite having a psychiatric disorder. Also he met with the volunteer from the Rostov region, Alexey Motorny, who has a heart stent after a heart attack.

Then, as ASTRA has already reported, on June 1, men were sent to the training grounds near Ilovaisk. «A few days later, they will be sent into assault. The detention of my husband is not documented, which means he was simply abducted. He is ill with hepatitis C and needs treatment,» says Igor’s wife to ASTRA.
