OSINT analyst at ASTRA determined from eyewitness footage that the fire occurred on the territory of the Sasta machine tool plant, which also houses the Yandex DC LLC Data Center, according to Wikimapia. Last month, the Data Center employees themselves showed off its equipment and explicitly stated that it was located in Sasovo, Ryazan region.
The Sasta plant specializes in the production of metalworking machines. The company’s equipment is used in the defense, aerospace, transport and heavy industries of the Russian Federation.
The importance of Sasta for the military-industrial complex of the Russian Federation lies not in the production of ready-made weapons, but in providing a production base, its machines are needed for the production of high-precision metal parts and assemblies. Previously, Sasta supplied special machines to Roscosmos enterprises. The company is also under international sanctions from Canada, Switzerland, the EU, the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Japan.
Zelensky explained the strike on the Yandex data center as a response to similar strikes by the Russian Armed Forces in Ukraine.
“We always respond in a mirror manner. The data centers, you all know, they [the Russian Armed Forces] have been attacking our data centers. We answered them. I can’t disclose all the details.”
Zelensky recalled the Russian attacks on the cities of Priluki and Kramatorsk, stressing that “Ukraine, of course, does not respond to children.”:
“It is not responding and will never do so. But adults will soon receive separate answers. No details.”
