“They’re going to war”

28‑year‑old Evgeny Dolmatov, who, according to leaks, served in the Samara region in Military Unit 45863 (the 30th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade) in 2020–2021, and since 2024 has been an employee at the contract military service recruitment point in Ulyanovsk, confirmed to ASTRA that it was he who “arranged for” Kazakh citizen Kamir Nurgaliyev to sign a contract. We reported on his story on October 20.He confirmed that he allowed Nurgaliyev to make the only call to his relatives from his smartphone after his detention in Ulyanovsk, which the foreigner’s relatives had previously reported. His friend was recruited along with the foreigner:

“I processed him and accompanied him to the military unit. Both were detained for drug distribution. Both were sent away.”

When asked to clarify the number of the military unit where the detainees were sent, Dolmatov resorted to swearing:“Go to hell. Don’t write to me again. This is my personal Telegram.” Write to the selection point.”

When asked to explain the reason for the rudeness and to tell how much he gets paid for each person processed, Dolmatov accused ASTRA of being rude:

“I’m not at work to chat with you. And secondly, what do you care how much I’m paid for them? That question is already rude! Gentlemen don’t talk about money, remember that.

I warned him that mercenary work is prohibited in Kazakhstan. That he would face criminal liability back home. Nothing bothered him in the slightest that he was going to fight against Ukraine. I’m not worried at all (laughs). Everything that was done was done by his own hands.”

After that, Dolmatov answered a question about the risks of being held criminally liable himself:“I’m not afraid of anything at all, because the paperwork was done in accordance with the law. I told them that they were going to be part of an assault because they had committed a criminal offense under Article 228. If you want, sign. If you don’t want to, go to prison. He chose to serve under a contract. That was his right. You’re contacting the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but he said he wanted to get a Russian passport and live with his friend. He talked about how he’d been taking ecstasy for three months. Later it turned out that they were also selling it.” Who is wrong here? Him or me? He was aware of all the criminal articles.
