“Not a basement, but a specially equipped shelter”

Handicapped serviceman from the Krasnodar Region was sent from a Donetsk basement on a combat mission.

Earlier, ASTRA wrote about Ilya Arnold, a resident of Novokubansk, Krasnodar Region, who left the penal colony to go to war with Ukraine and joined military unit 41698, 5th brigade of the 3rd Motorized Rifle Battalion, company “B”. He was wounded in battle, left untreated in the hospital, and then imprisoned in a basement—only to be sent back to the front line. His mother, Olga Arnold, told ASTRA about it.

She learned that her errant son was wounded at the front from a man who introduced himself as the military prosecutor of Donetsk, Sergei Ivanov (whether this name is real is unknown). At the same time, the day before, the employee said that he had sent his assistant to check Ilya’s condition, but had not found him on the spot.

“The prosecutor informed me that my son had not been found at the location that my son had previously given me. He said he was sent on a combat mission. Tell me where else a mother needs to go to prove that her son was injured, he couldn’t walk, and his knee wouldn’t bend. What kind of combat mission was he sent to?!” the serviceman’s mother told ASTRA.

Also, in a conversation with Olga Arnold, the man stated that Ilya was discharged from the hospital because he allegedly violated the conditions of treatment, namely, he got drunk. However, the victim’s mother believes that this is a fabrication, and similar cases have already occurred — thus, commanders, including a certain doctor Maxim, forcibly pull unwanted soldiers out of treatment, before taking away their bank cards.

Also two days ago, the deputy political officer of the unit with the call sign “Ural”, Vasily Lugovoy, in correspondence (screenshots are available to ASTRA) with Olga Arnold, said that her son was not in the basement, but in a “specially equipped bomb shelter, whose function is to protect fighters from drone attacks and enemy artillery.”

“Everything in the bomb shelter is equipped for a comfortable stay. No one sleeps on the floor, the ventilated room is warm and dry, water, tea, hot meals are provided, as well as medical care. He receives medical care regularly, being under the supervision of medical staff,” Lugovoy said.

According to him, there are no basements in the “DPR”. Earlier ASTRA has published photos, videos, and other evidence of the existence of at least 20 basements of the Russian army in the “LDPR”. 2 more places have been found on the territory of the Russian Federation.

Earlier, ASTRA published an investigation into the torture of Russian military commanders of the 5th and 110th brigades (military units 41698 and 42600). According to the interlocutors of the editorial office, the commanders set up a real “concentration camp” on the territory of the abandoned Petrovsky mine in Donetsk. It was there that the military from the 5th Brigade tortured the American “military correspondent” Russell Bentley before his death. ASTRA published the first and only video from the premises of this mine. Men who refused to fight were tortured there, and then they were forced to go on deadly assaults.
