Local residents report that traffic is currently blocked in the area of the attacked factories.
As previously reported by ASTRA readers, in Saransk, on the night of May 7, after the UAV attack 2 fires broke out, which was confirmed by eyewitness footage. The first fire occurred on the territory of the Optical Fiber Systems plant, ASTRA found out by analyzing footage from the fire site.

The second fire, according to the analysis of ASTRA, occurred a few kilometers from the first one — the smoke was visible behind large containers that appeared in the photos of eyewitnesses. Analysis of satellite images shows that the Saranskkabel plant is located in the area of the fire. The exact location of the second ASTRA fire could not be determined, however, news about the fire appear on the Saransk Cable as well as Ukrainian Osint channels.
Optical Fiber Systems JSC is Russia’s first and only optical fiber manufacturing plant located in Saransk (Republic of Mordovia), according to the company’s website. Anton Gerashchenko, Adviser to the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, previously noted that the Saransk plant produces fiber-optic cables used to control drones during the war against Ukraine.

The plant was previously attacked in early April.
The local authorities did not confirm the attack on any of the factories, confirming only the fact of the UAV attack. Later, Saransk cancelled classes in schools, universities and kindergartens and put a ban on the publication of photos, videos and information about the consequences of the attacks, the city administration reported.
