In occupied Mariupol, residents of a building destroyed in the fighting at 101 Nakhimov Avenue have recorded a video message accusing local authorities of abuse of power and willful neglect of their rights. According to them, not everyone had enough space in the new house, which is being built on the site of the old one.
“It seems that city officials have razed this house to the ground along with the apartment owners,” reads the caption to the video posted by the victims.
According to the former residents, the decision to transfer the site to the developer was made behind the scenes, without real consideration of the owners’ opinion. People claim to be left without housing, property rights, and the ability to return what legally belonged to them. They have applied to the prosecutor’s office with an official statement and demand a freeze on construction.
“We are still living in temporary apartments,” they stressed.
Residents emphasize that officials have already reported on the “relocation” — in fact, removing them from all programs and lists, as if the problem has been solved.
Now the main goal of the initiative group is to stop the construction until their rights are restored.
Earlier, as reported by ASTRA, other residents of occupied Mariupol wrote similar appeals to the prosecutor’s office.
Earlier, ASTRA said how a large-scale mortgage construction project in a war-ravaged city left tens of thousands of people homeless: the occupation authorities took apartments from residents of the city, and gave expensive land in the historical center to Russian developers for mortgage housing.
