Previously convicted Russian soldier buried with military honors had raped and threatened 22-year-old Tomsk resident

In March 2024, a 22-year-old Tomsk resident demanded that a criminal case be opened against a 49-year-old Russian serviceman Vitaly Goncharov. The woman reported that he had raped her, threatening to kill her, in the car and in the apartment. Subsequently, a criminal case was opened against Vitaly for sexual violence (Part 2 of Article 132 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

Six months later, on October 17, 2024, Goncharov was killed in the war in Ukraine, the Duma of the city district of Storozhevoy, Tomsk region, reported.

“On 17.10.2024, during the performance of tasks in a special military operation in the area of the locality of Tsukurino (DPR), Vitaly Alexandrovich Goncharov, a senior shooter of the assault squad, who was born in 1974 and served under contract, was killed in Strezhev. We express our condolences to the family and friends. The farewell will take place on 11/22/2024 from 12.00 to 14.00 in the funeral hall at 38 Transportnaya Street (next to the gas station at the exit from the city),” the publication said.

In 2025, the criminal case against the military was closed due to his death. As ASTRA found out, Goncharov had previously been repeatedly convicted of robberies, theft and rape.
