On the night of August 28, the Russian Armed Forces launched 629 means of air attack on Kiev. Among them: 598 Shahed-type attack UAVs and various types of simulator drones, 2 X-47M2 Dagger aeroballistic missiles, 9 Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles, 20 X-101 cruise missiles.
Russian UAVs hit a five-story apartment building in the Darnytskyi district, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said. Buildings in other areas of the city were also damaged, including the shopping mall in the center.
“Due to the Russian ballistic missile attack, we are recording the consequences in the Shevchenko, Darnitsky and Dneprovsky districts. We are assessing the scale of the damage,” writes Timur Tkachenko, head of the city’s military administration.
“At the moment, we have the consequences of the attack in more than 20 locations in Darnitsky, Dneprovsky, Solomensky, Shevchenkovsky, Goloseevsky, Obolonsky and Desnyansky districts. Significant damage in residential buildings in Darnitsky and Dneprovsky districts. In the Darnitsky district, the Russians destroyed part of a 5-storey building with a direct hit. A rescue operation is underway at the site, they are trying to unblock people and get them out from under the rubble. 9- and 16-storey residential buildings, a private house, parking, kindergarten were damaged. A residential 25-storey building was damaged in the Dnipro district, a drone hit the courtyard next to the 9th floor, cars are on fire. Dozens of cars were damaged in several locations. A private apartment building was on fire in the Solomenskiy district, and the fire is currently localized. The Shevchenkovsky district was also badly affected. Several non-residential buildings, offices, cars of ordinary Kiev residents. In the Goloseevsky district, in the morning, as a result of the fire attack in several locations, more than 10 houses with broken windows, cars were damaged. In the Desnyansky district, we are also recording the consequences in a non-residential area. There are also damages in Obolonskoye. In general, in Kiev, the number of damaged facilities will again reach hundreds, broken windows — thousands, a shopping mall in the city center was damaged,” the head of the city military administration reports the details of the attacks.
In total, about 500 rescuers and 1,000 police officers are working in Kiev at the moment.
“It’s a terrible night for Kiev. There are many damaged buildings in Darnitsky, Dneprovsky, Shevchenkovsky, Goloseevsky, Desnyansky districts. These are both non-residential buildings and high-rise buildings. Educational institutions, transport infrastructure. Emergency services are working everywhere on the ground. A five-storey house was destroyed in the Darnitsky district. Rescuers are looking for people under the rubble. In the city center, the entrance to the shopping center. At the moment, there is information about 21 casualties. August 29 has been declared a Day of Mourning in Kiev, said Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
