“Everyone wants Mariupol, but nobody wants us”

Former residents of the houses on Artyom, 130 and 130A streets in Mariupol appealed to Vladimir Putin with a request to intervene in the housing situation. According to them, the authorities of the “DPR” demolished their houses in 2023, canceled their addresses and promised to compensate for the lost apartments, but the promises were not fulfilled — instead, people are offered to get a mortgage.

Vera Senkova, who has lived in an apartment at 130A for 20 years, said that her housing was not privatized, and she was not included in the queue for new housing. According to her, only the foundation pit remained of the house.

Marina Yakunova said that instead of the previous area, she was offered 33 m2 for both her and her son. For the third year now, the family has been forced to move with an elderly father and child into temporary apartments, despite a decree that was supposed to guarantee the provision of housing.

Residents note that after the “DPR” published reports on the allegedly “provided” housing, the compensation program was closed.
