Residents of Sevastopol joined rescuers on the afternoon of March 24, clearing the rubble after a powerful explosion in a five-story apartment building on Korchagina Street. Residents of neighboring houses told ASTRA about this, as well as records in local chat rooms. Eyewitnesses captured footage from the debris clearing site.
According to ASTRA, after studying these and other images and videos, the epicenter of the explosion, which occurred around midnight on March 23-24, turned out to be an apartment on the first floor of a five-story building at Korchagina 14.
A large Rodikov family lived in the apartment: Olga Rodikova, a 50-year-old chorister at the Sevastopol University Church, her 52-year-old husband Sergey Rodikov, an employee of a local furniture company, and their children. There are six children in the Rodikov family. Olga and her 20-year-old son Vasily died on the spot. This information was also confirmed in the church, where the woman was a singer.
“At midnight, as a result of an explosion in an apartment building (the circumstances are still being determined), our singer, a parishioner who stood at the origins of the Tatiana Church, and a mother with many children (6 children) were killed Olga Rodikova. Presumably, her son Vasily also died. Four daughters are injured, they are in the hospital. We ask for your special prayers!” the publication says.
Olga’s underage daughters, 14-year-old Maria and 12-year-old Tatiana, were injured, ASTRA found out. Husband was not injured. At the time of publication, he had not responded to calls from an ASTRA journalist.
An explosion of household gas has been completely excluded from the versions of the cause of the explosion in an apartment building in the annexed Sevastopol, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia in the region reported earlier. The Investigative Committee reported on the initiation of a criminal case on the fact of causing death by negligence. The ministry added that experts are currently determining all the causes of the incident.
